Job details: General Purpose
Under the general supervision of the Manager of Design & Publishing Services unit within the Web Services department, and with some latitude for independent judgment and discretion, develop new Web sites and maintain existing sites for training, communications, educational, administrative and other activities of the University. Provide expertise in Web editorial and technical skills to the ITS Web Services unit and its clients. ITS Web Services provides Web application development, Web design and Web infrastructure services to the general Yale University community.
Essential Duties
1. Develop integrate, edit and maintain the site technical structure, user interface, text content, graphic elements, photography and audiovisual content of Web projects. Act as project coordinator and primary client contact for assigned sites; support other Web site design, development and maintenance projects. 2. Meet with clients and manage production schedules for assigned projects. In collaboration with the Manager of the Design and Publishing unit and others within ITS Web Services group of producers, designers, and programmers, coordinate the work of project team members and students workers assigned to projects. 3. Manage assigned projects for technical quality, editorial quality, budget compliance and accurate production schedules. 4. Provide communications and technical expertise in design, technical or editorial skills to other projects within ITS Web Services. 5. With some independent judgment and discretion, conceive, research, develop and edit content for Web site projects.
Education & Experience
1. Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Arts, Computer Science, Communications or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Education & Experience
1. Two years experience in a Web publication and production environment as a designer or Web site producer, or equivalent work experience in communications or Web technology. 2. A portfolio of completed projects is required.
Skills & Abilities
1. Working knowledge of project management methodologies and a demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality Web projects under tight budgets, tight deadlines and high editorial quality standards. 2. Understanding of Web development technologies and user interface design in a complex institutional environment. 3. Demonstrated via a portfolio of work, comprehensive skills in Web site development, user interface design, Web accessibility, XHTML, cascading style sheets and other Web development technologies. Proficiency in Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Adobe Studio 8 and other Web and graphic editing software. Experience with Mac and Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office applications. 4. Some knowledge of other site development technologies, including many of the following: JavaScript, XML/XSLT, AJAX, RSS, Apache, PHP, MySQL, .Net, ASP, SharePoint, Flash ActionScript, Web-enabled database scripting, Web search software, Web 2.0 collaborative technologies such as blogs and wikis and Web content management software. 5. Demonstrated ability to creatively adapt to the continuously changing technology and the communications needs of Yale University clients and Web site managers. 6. Excellent interpersonal, communications, and organizational skills.
