The ORACLE DBA should have 5 - 10 years of experience installing, implementing, and administering the ORACLE Database with versions 9i and 10g. Significant past experience with versions 7.3, 8.0, and 8i is highly desirable. Software development and implementation experience is preferable so that the DBA will have had support experience with several software development environments as well as packaged applications. Extensive knowledge of UNIX server technologies is required for the purposes of Oracle installations and upgrades.
The primary objective of this position is to provide mission-critical ORACLE database support to internal Engineering customers. This position is required to work on problems of diverse scope related to ORACLE technologies, where analysis of situations or data requires evaluation of various factors. This position will also supply technical direction and guidance to consultants and continually work to assist in improving consultant skills, abilities and knowledge.
Key Responsibilities:
§ Install and configure Oracle database environments
§ Support internal datacenter and lab environment on an as needed basis
§ Perform database tuning and administrative functions for production and data warehousing environments
§ Assist the System Engineers during Installation, configuration and upgrading of Oracle server software and related products
§ Establish and maintain sound backup and recovery policies and procedures
§ Perform Oracle install, upgrades, patching and other administrative functions
§ Implement and maintain database security (create and maintain users and roles, assign privileges)
§ Perform database tuning and performance monitoring
§ Respond to system problems if necessary at any time (24x7) - Responsible for providing after-hours support
§ Plan growth and changes (capacity planning)
§ Database performance monitoring and tuning
§ Database backup and recovery Database troubleshooting and problem resolution
§ Database capacity planning, physical database design and implementation
§ Create user accounts and maintaining system security, control access
§ Responsible for documenting all work in a clear and concise fashion.
§ Regular hours of work are 8:00 AM * 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Telecommuting is not an option.
§ Located in Bellevue Washington at the T-Mobile Field Service Center
Competencies:
Fluent in Oracle RDBMS engine, including configuration and internal Oracle components
Strong Operating System experience in Unix and Linux
Strong installation experience for Oracle DB and AS environments - in highly available deployments and in disaster recovery environments
Experienced in working with Oracle support for fast problem documentation and resolution
Strong Unix shell and/or PERL programming skills
Setup and maintain documentation and standards
Understand how to properly recommend disk space, RAM and CPU capabilities related to "sizing" an Oracle environment
Install, configure, and deploy Oracle based high-availability solutions on Unix and Linux platforms using Oracle RAC*
Strong Oracle disk "layout" experience
Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager version 9 or 10g
Experience with SQL and PL/SQL performance tuning
Experience with UNIX platforms, including Unix shell scripting skills.
Performs capacity planning required to create and maintain Oracle databases.
Desired DBA Skills and Knowledge:
A good knowledge of a wide variety of operating system(s), especially Linux, Sun Solaris, IBM AIX, HP UX, and Microsoft Windows NT/2000/2003.
A good knowledge of physical database design including storage system design and storage capacity planning.
Ability to perform both Oracle database and operating system performance monitoring and make necessary adjustments.
Ability to provide a strategic and tactical database direction for T-Mobile customers.
Excellent knowledge of Oracle backup and recovery scenarios and software including the use of various media managers like Veritas and Legato.
Good skills in all Oracle tools including Oracle Enterprise Manager.
A good knowledge of Oracle security management.
A good knowledge of how Oracle acquires and manages resources.
Experience and knowledge in migrating code, database changes, and data through the various stages of the development life cycle.
Expert knowledge of the way Oracle enforces data integrity.
Expert knowledge of both Oracle database and program code performance tuning.
Sound communication skills with the ability to communicate with people from multiple cultures and technical knowledge levels.
Ability to communicate complex technical solutions completely over the telephone and via email.
Excellent written communication skills are essential for documenting work and developing project plans and procedures for database maintenance.
