I have a slight issue I could really use some help with. An internet buddy of mine set me up with an ftp account on his university server so that I may host a couple of files (ie. a mirror location) on my webblog. The current url is:

http://www.example.com/~john/

In order to keep preying eyes away from the root domain (example.com) he asks that I bind (or park) a domain to my directory.

I have no cPanel, and no access to ‘bind’ (?) just my created folder.

So… I am wondering how it would be possible to park a domain name, using possibly .htaccess or some method other then cPanel’s automatic wack-amoll features. If modifying the httpd.conf is necessary I’m sure I could have that accomplished, but I really do need some assistance with this.

The objective is to change:

http://www.example.com/~john/example.ZIP

To

http://www.mydomain.com/example.ZIP

Thanks a bunch!

You can add to your .htaccess file some URL rewriting rules.
The Apache daemon on the server must have mod_rewrite.
